Parotidectomy should not be considered as a major surgery for the following reasons: Firstly, the parotid gland is located in the subcutaneous area of the lower jaw, and usually after cutting the skin, the parotid gland can be detached and excised immediately, so it is relatively superficial and the surgery is not very difficult. Secondly, there are no important nerves and blood vessels around the parotid gland, so it will not damage the surrounding important tissues. Thirdly, the operation time for parotid gland removal is not very long and the bleeding is not too much, which will not lead to hemorrhagic shock due to too much bleeding. Fourthly, parotidectomy will not cause any danger to the patient’s life during or after the operation. Therefore, parotidectomy is generally not considered a major surgery.
