What is the condition of low GGT

If a patient has a low GGT in the liver function test, it is recommended that the patient should continue to observe the situation and generally no special treatment is needed. The normal value of GGT is generally between 11 and 50 U/L. If it is within this range, the patient’s body is considered to be in the normal range. If the GGT is higher than 50U/L, it is possible that the patient has biliary obstruction, which is caused by stones or tumor diseases of the biliary tract, or tumors of the pancreas that compress the bile ducts and cause intrahepatic biliary stasis and elevated bilirubin. In this case, the patient also has a combination of total bilirubin, direct bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase. In this case, the patient needs to check the ultrasound of the upper abdomen and MRI of the upper abdomen, which is the MRCP water imaging of the biliary tract. If the obstruction is caused by stone, we should consider to perform stone removal surgery under ERCP; if it is caused by tumor disease, we should consider to perform surgical treatment as soon as possible.
