Gallbladder not large is the language used in the diagnostic imaging description of the gallbladder. A gallbladder that is not large actually means that the gallbladder is within the normal size range of about 5-8 cm long and 3-5 cm wide. although a small gallbladder shape does not mean that the gallbladder is not diseased. Asymptomatic gallbladder stones and gallbladder polyps also have a normal gallbladder shape size, although this may also require surgical treatment. In contrast, gallbladder shrinkage is mainly seen in gallbladder atrophy, caused most commonly by calculous cholecystitis. The inflammation is often recurrent and has a certain chance of causing gallbladder cancer, which requires timely surgical treatment, with laparoscopic cholecystectomy preferred. In contrast, enlarged gallbladder is most commonly associated with cholecystitis, gallbladder cancer, common bile duct obstruction and other related diseases, which may eventually need to be treated surgically. In this case, not only the gallbladder but also part of the liver and extrahepatic bile ducts may need to be removed.
