Are small liver cysts a precursor to liver cancer?

Small liver cysts are not precursors of liver cancer. Liver cysts are benign diseases with very low probability of developing into liver cancer. They are often found by chance during physical examination, abdominal ultrasound or abdominal CT, and usually do not cause any discomfort, so there is usually no need for special treatment, and regular follow-up is sufficient. For liver cysts with a diameter of more than 5 cm, if they exert pressure on the surrounding tissues and organs, surgical resection is feasible. Patients with history of liver disease, sudden onset of pain in liver area, hepatomegaly, jaundice, abdominal mass, spider nevus and liver palms need to be alerted to hepatocellular carcinoma, and need to be further examined by abdominal MRI or abdominal CT enhancement, and at the same time, have the tumor markers examined, and have the alpha-fetoprotein examined. If liver cancer is identified, surgical resection of the tumor is needed. If the patient has any discomfort, go to the hospital in time to avoid delaying the treatment.
