The dangers of tetanus are muscle contraction, nerve excitation, and respiratory failure.
1. Muscle contraction: tetanus is a toxic disease caused by local bacterial infection. When the toxin reaches the brain, it will close the diastolic regulator of the body’s muscles, so that the muscles can only contract but not diastole. It is easy to feel tired after activity. Muscle contraction will cause muscle breakage, dissolution and bone breakage, and even lead to muscle contraction in the throat, which will cause the patient can’t gasp for breath and endanger his/her life.
2. Nervous excitement: the causative organism of tetanus is Clostridium tetani, which produces a large amount of spasmodic toxin after bacterial infection, which can act on the nerve center and lead to over-excitement of the nerves. It is manifested in the patients’ elevated blood pressure, increased heart rate, as well as increased body temperature, excessive sweating and so on.
3. Respiratory failure: when the infection is serious, it will involve the muscles of mastication, facial expression, and even the respiratory muscles, resulting in serious intrapulmonary infection and respiratory failure.
If the patient is at risk of tetanus infection, it is recommended to seek medical examination and treatment in time to avoid delaying the condition.
