Is 4.9 vision normal for first grade?

A first grader with 4.9 visual acuity at about 6 years of age is slightly below normal, but a medical examination is needed to make a definitive diagnosis.
Vision develops gradually after birth. When a child reaches the age of 5 to 6, his or her visual acuity can develop to a normal 5.0. A child in first grade is usually around 6 years old and should be able to reach a visual acuity of 5.0 at this time, but if he or she cannot reach a visual acuity of 5.0, for example, only 4.9, it is a little lower than normal.
They should be examined by an ophthalmologist at a hospital to see if there are any refractive errors, such as hyperopia, astigmatism, or myopia, which can usually be diagnosed with an optometry test. Slit lamp microscopy and funduscopic examination should also be done to rule out the possibility of other eye diseases.
