Jaundice on the 6th day of life can be treated with light therapy, medication, blood exchange therapy, etc. if it is caused by pathological reasons; if it is caused by physiological reasons, no special treatment is needed.
Neonatal jaundice is jaundice of the skin or other organs caused by the accumulation of bilirubin in the body. Jaundice can be seen with the naked eye when the serum bilirubin of the newborn exceeds 5-7mg/dl.
1. Physiological jaundice: almost all newborns in China will have temporary elevation of serum bilirubin of different degrees in the early postnatal period, the children are generally in good condition, often without special intervention, the latest 2 weeks for full-term babies, and the premature babies can be delayed for 3 to 4 weeks after the improvement of the condition by themselves.
2. Pathological jaundice: mostly caused by infection, hypoxia and biliary atresia.
(1) Phototherapy: this method is a simple and effective way to reduce serum unconjugated bilirubin, commonly used equipment includes phototherapy box, phototherapy lamp, phototherapy blanket, etc., which can be single-sided or double-sided phototherapy.
(2) Pharmacological treatment: Albumin can be supplied, 5% sodium bicarbonate can be used to correct metabolic acidosis, phenobarbital can induce liver enzyme activity, and immunoglobulin can be used intravenously.
(3) Blood exchange therapy: If the jaundice is caused by hemolytic disease of the newborn, blood exchange therapy can be considered, usually choosing umbilical vein or other larger veins for blood exchange.
Neonatal jaundice, the need for timely examination to clarify the cause, follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment, so as not to delay the condition.
