Can Gui Fu Di Huang Wan and Jiaotai Wan be taken together?

Gui Fu Di Huang Wan and Jiaotai Wan are not recommended to be taken together. The efficacy of the two medicines is different, and using them together may destroy the efficacy of the medicine; and the two medicines have a common medicinal composition of cinnamon, so there may be a risk of overdose if they are used together.
1. Gui Su Di Huang Wan is composed of cinnamon, cornelian cherry, moutan skin, epimedium, ripened dihuang, Chinese yam, poria, and zedoary. It has the effect of warming and tonifying kidney yang, and is clinically used for treating phlegm (a pathological product of impaired metabolism of water and liquid), wheezing and coughing, dysuria (unruly urination) or reflux, and soreness and coldness of the waist and knees in the case of insufficient kidney yang.
2. Jiaotai Pill is composed of Rhizoma Coptidis and Cinnamomum Cassia, which has the efficacy of communicating with the heart and kidney (the heart fire descends, the kidney water rises, and each other restrains the other), and it can treat the symptoms of dazedness and anxiety (violent heartbeat, panic and restlessness), restlessness in the night, and soreness in the mouth and tongue, which are caused by the evidence of excessive heart fire, and the incompatibility of the heart and the kidney (the heart fire is strong, the kidney yin is deficient and the physiological function of the heart and the kidney is out of balance).
