How long does it take for constipation to take lactulose to work

Lactulose for constipation is basically effective within 8-12 hours, but this varies from person to person. If some patients have severe constipation and have not seen relief for many years, lactulose is basically slow to work or does not have any effect. It is necessary to give oral fructose tablets, also known as phenolphthalein tablets, plus compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte dispersion for symptomatic treatment. If the symptoms are not relieved, warm soapy water 500ml or 800ml enemas should be given. For mild constipation, which has started to appear in the last 2 or 3 months, basically drinking lactulose for 8-12 hours can be effective, and drinking for 2-3 days can basically relieve the symptoms. For constipation that recurs frequently, it is better to improve the routine stool examination and, if necessary, colonoscopy to further clarify the diagnosis.
