Smoking teeth yellowing can be removed by scaling and polishing and cold light whitening.
1. Scaling and polishing: Usually most of the smoke stains from smoking adhere to the surface of the teeth. Regular annual scaling and polishing can remove these stains, and sandblasting can also be used in the areas between the teeth that are hard to reach with instruments.
2. Cold light whitening: Usually for patients with cracked teeth, the smoke stains have penetrated the inside of the teeth and may be difficult to clean with simple scaling, so cold light whitening is needed. This technique uses cold light to irradiate the surface of teeth coated with hydrogen peroxide gel. Generally, each treatment takes about 40 minutes and the effect lasts for 3 to 5 years.
Smoking not only tends to produce stains, but may also aggravate periodontal and systemic diseases, so patients are advised to quit smoking as soon as possible.
