How to self-help after ankle sprain?

Ankle sprains are common in rehabilitation medicine outpatient clinics, and we have seen a variety of ankle sprains in outpatient clinics for a long time. The degree of ankle injury varies with different injury mechanisms and the prognosis varies, but proper early management improves the prognosis of the ankle to a certain extent. The ankle joint is the main weight-bearing joint that first comes into contact with the ground in sports, and the weaker lateral stability makes ankle sprains mostly inversion sprains, and the immediate self-help treatment after a sprain should follow the PRICE principles, namely Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. . 1.Protection: Stop the ankle activity immediately after sprain, and use ankle brace for protection if possible. 2.Rest (Rest) The injured part should be properly rested to avoid aggravating the injury due to continued bleeding and swelling. 3.Ice (cold compress) should be applied to the ankle joint within 48 hours after injury to reduce intra-articular bleeding, swelling and pain, and to relax the spastic muscles. The temperature of cold therapy should be about 4℃ cold pack (you can also use commercially available cold spray), the scope should be wrapped around the whole ankle joint, 20 minutes of cold compress in every 1 hour, and should be repeated within 24 hours after the injury; pushing, massage and hot compress are strictly prohibited in the acute period. 4.Compression After the injury, the ankle joint should be fixed with compression to reduce intra-articular bleeding and exudation. Use elastic bandage to gradually tie the distal end of the ankle joint to the proximal end, and the strength of the bandage should be moderate. 5.Elevation To reduce swelling and exudation, the ankle joint should be elevated after the injury, slightly above the level of the heart in the horizontal position. The degree of ankle injury can be mild or severe, so you should go to the hospital as soon as possible after the injury to clarify the degree of ankle injury and follow up the treatment in time.
