PICC is a placement procedure in which a peripheral vein is punctured and cannulated with its tip positioned in the superior vena cava or subclavian vein. As the head of PICC catheter is located in the central vein, the blood flow is large, which can rapidly reduce the fluid osmotic pressure and drug concentration, thus avoiding the destruction of peripheral vessels and the stimulation of local tissues by chemotherapy drugs and chemical phlebitis and tissue necrosis caused by extravasation of chemotherapy drugs. At the same time, PICC reduces the pain of repeated punctures, effectively improves the quality of care and work efficiency, and avoids many hidden clinical infusion problems. It is especially suitable for oncology patients who need repeated chemotherapy for many times. Due to the advantages of high success rate of PICC, time and labor saving, no local anesthesia and stitches, no restriction of patient’s arm movement, and short painful time for patients, the clinical application of PICC is becoming more and more widespread.
