No, “polycystic liver cysts” and “polycystic liver” are two completely different diseases. Polycystic Liver Polycystic liver is an autosomal dominant disease (with a family history of inheritance) that often presents with multiple diffuse lesions of the liver. It is most often accompanied by polycystic kidneys and sometimes by cystic lesions of the pancreas, spleen, lungs and ovaries. Diagnosis: relies on DNA analysis (heterozygous mutation of the 16th human autosomal pair). Treatment: small, asymptomatic ones do not require treatment; large ones that affect liver function are treated surgically. Multiple liver cysts Multiple liver cysts are essentially “liver cysts”. Liver cysts are simply small blisters that are generally no larger than 5-8 centimeters and do not need to be treated. Medication is not effective (so there is no need to take medication!!!).
