Are multiple liver cysts polycystic liver?

Many people find multiple liver cysts in their physical examination, and then mistakenly think that they have “polycystic liver”, then “multiple liver cysts” and “polycystic liver” is a kind of disease? No, “polycystic liver cysts” and “polycystic liver” are two completely different diseases. Polycystic Liver Polycystic liver is an autosomal dominant disease (with a family history of inheritance) that often presents with multiple diffuse lesions of the liver. It is most often accompanied by polycystic kidneys and sometimes by cystic lesions of the pancreas, spleen, lungs and ovaries. Diagnosis: relies on DNA analysis (heterozygous mutation of the 16th human autosomal pair). Treatment: small, asymptomatic ones do not require treatment; large ones that affect liver function are treated surgically. Multiple liver cysts Multiple liver cysts are essentially “liver cysts”. Liver cysts are simply small blisters that are generally no larger than 5-8 centimeters and do not need to be treated. Medication is not effective (so there is no need to take medication!!!). Liver cysts are simply small blisters that do not exceed 5-8 centimeters. Liver cysts over 5-8 centimeters are usually treated with ultrasound-guided liver cyst aspiration + anhydrous alcohol injection or laparoscopic liver cyst opening and decompression. Ultrasound-guided liver cyst aspiration + anhydrous alcohol injection: Advantages: performed under local anesthesia, no need for general anesthesia. Disadvantages: May be recurrent and may continue to produce fluid internally when the puncture hole for fluid aspiration has healed. Laparoscopic decompression of hepatic cysts: Advantages: A window is made at the top of the hepatic cyst, so that even if new fluid is produced, it can flow out on its own. Disadvantages: general anesthesia for the procedure. Key points in differentiating polycystic liver from multiple liver cysts: Polycystic liver is mostly congenital and often accompanied by polycystic kidneys, while multiple liver cysts are mostly acquired.
