Dry syndrome is an autoimmune disease with dry mouth and dry eyes as the main clinical manifestations. Western medicine treatment is based on immunosuppressant plus symptomatic treatment. Chinese medicine has its own unique theoretical system, which takes the holistic view as the premise and diagnoses the disease through the eight-steel dialectic, organ dialectic and qi-blood-yin-yang dialectic based on Chinese medicine’s understanding of the physiological function and pathological process of each organ. Through years of clinical exploration, we realized that the fundamental pathogenesis of dry syndrome is spleen qi deficiency. The main function of the spleen is to digest and absorb the food and drink consumed by the human body, the clear ones are the essence and micro-qi, including blood, fluid and other essence substances, which nourish the human body, while the turbid ones are the dregs and eliminated from the body. The lower bladder, water essence four cloth, five parallel meridians, write the degree for the normal”. If the spleen qi is weak, can not be transformed into qi and produce fluid, the viscera and muscles are not nourished, the liver and kidney yin deficiency, a variety of symptoms, because the disease is deep, not easy to cure. The understanding that spleen deficiency causes dryness can also be corroborated by the symptoms of dryness syndrome patients who also have weakness, little or no tongue coating and weak bowel movement. The clinical method of benefitting qi and generating fluid is the basic method, and “Run Dry Drink” is summarized to treat dryness syndrome. The reason is that “Run Dryness Drink” is to nourish the spleen qi as a matter of priority, so that the spleen can be transported and transformed normally or close to normal, and the fluids can be produced to nourish the body and the disease can be cured. Here is an example to illustrate. A female patient, more than 70 years old, dry mouth, dry eyes, dry skin, tongue light red cracks all over, no fluids. Her body was thin and weak, her speech was slight, and her dryness was seriously aggravated by eating meat, so that her symptoms were aggravated after eating a beef ball, and her dryness was unbearable for several days. He had been treated mainly with nourishing Yin and generating fluid, and the medicine then slightly reduced the dryness of the mouth and eyes, but the tongue was as dry as before, and there was no major change in his condition. The patient has a deficiency of qi and is very dry when eating indigestible food, because of the weakness of the middle qi and the failure of transportation and transformation, so that the fluid cannot be dispersed and “the fluid overflows”. The main treatment was to nourish the middle energy and benefit the qi, plus a small amount of medicine to promote the flow of fluid and dryness, which was effective. The symptoms were greatly reduced in two months with this method of treatment, only when he went out, he felt his mouth was dry and his tongue was slightly coated, and he could see the thin cloth of fluid. Another female patient, who had dryness syndrome for many years, besides dryness, said that “abdomen is empty after stool”, used this method effectively, and at the same time, blood sugar was reduced to normal range (she had abnormal glucose tolerance). What I hope you understand is that the treatment of dry syndrome in TCM is the same as the treatment of other diseases, and it should be different from person to person, i.e. it is very important to treat with evidence, which is the essence of TCM and the root of curing the disease, and it is also different from Western medicine.
