What’s wrong with hearing differently in each ear?

Different hearing in two ears may be caused by cerumen impaction, or by diseases such as acoustic neuroma and otitis media. 1. Cerumen impaction: The main cause of cerumen impaction is due to the obstacle of cerumen discharge caused by excessive cerumen secretion, and it may also be related to the scarring of the external auditory canal, cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal, and ceruminous adenoma. When the cerumen embolism in one ear is swollen by water, the patient may experience hearing loss on one side, so it feels that the hearing is not the same in both ears. 2. Auditory neuroma: If it is a single auditory neuroma, the etiology is not clear yet, and it may be related to ionizing radiation, impulse noise and other reasons. If it is neurofibromatosis type II, it is related to heredity. Auditory neuroma mainly manifests as unilateral progressive hearing loss, which may be manifested as different hearing in two ears, or tinnitus, vertigo and other symptoms may appear. 3. Otitis media: The occurrence of this disease is mainly related to pathogenic microbial infections, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus, influenza virus, adenovirus and so on, and it may also be caused by dysfunction of the eustachian tube. Most patients with monaural onset of the disease will experience different degrees of hearing loss, so some patients have the phenomenon of different hearing in both ears. There are many reasons why the patient’s hearing is not the same in both ears. The patient should go to the hospital for a complete examination to clarify the specific cause of the disease.
