Common symptoms of laryngeal cancer

The main clinical manifestations of laryngeal cancer are hoarseness, progressive aggravation, foreign body sensation in the throat, discomfort when swallowing, pain in the throat, or irritating cough, blood in the sputum, respiratory difficulty and neck lumps in severe cases. Symptoms of laryngeal cancer in different parts of the body are different: 1. Supraglottic type Early symptoms include foreign body sensation in the larynx, discomfort in the throat, and even affect swallowing. In the late stage, there is blood in the sputum, often accompanied by hoarseness and dyspnea, etc. 2.Vocal hilar type The main symptom is hoarseness, which gradually worsens. When the tumor enlarges, it will block the vocal canal and cause laryngeal wheezing and dyspnea, and in the late stage, there will be bloody sputum and laryngeal obstruction. 3.Subglottic type Because this area is hidden, it is not easy to be found in the routine laryngoscopy. In the early stage, it may be asymptomatic, and later, cough and bloody sputum may occur. In late stage, because the subglottis area is blocked by cancer, there is often difficulty in breathing. It may also penetrate the cricothyroid membrane and invade the thyroid gland and prefrontal soft tissue, or infiltrate along the anterior wall of esophagus. Transvocal cancer may be asymptomatic in early stage, but it may easily spread to the lateral paravocal space. Hoarseness is the first symptom. Later, when the cancer expands to the surrounding area and infiltrates and damages the laryngeal cartilage, sore throat may occur.
