The original formula of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang is composed of Gui Zhi, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Jujubae, Paeoniae lactiflora, Ginger and Gum Syrup. Xiao Jianzhong Tang is a warming agent with the effects of warming the middle Jiao, tonifying the deficiency, harmonizing the middle Jiao and easing the urgency. Xiao Jian Zhong Tang is used to treat deficiency and cold in the middle jiao, disharmony between the liver and spleen (the liver and spleen cannot work in harmony), and disharmony between yin and yang, which is characterized by constrictive pain in the epigastrium (abdomen) (spasm and convulsion due to the feeling of wind-cold), which starts and stops at any time, and likes to be warmed and pressed; or palpitation in the heart, restlessness caused by deficiency heat in the body, and lack of bluish color in the face; and also irritable and hot in the hands and feet (irritable and sultry), and dryness of the pharynx and mouth with a light tongue and white coating, and a thin and stringy pulse. The tongue is pale and white, and the pulse is stringy. It should be noted that it is not suitable for people with vomiting or middle-fullness; and it is not recommended for people with stomach and epigastric pain due to yin deficiency (deficiency of yin essence in the body and hyperactivity of deficiency fire).
