How to prevent hearing disability

Currently, many people do not have enough knowledge about ear care, especially for pediatric patients. In our country, the prevalence of deafness tops the list of the five major disabilities. The overall prevalence of all degrees of hearing loss in the infant and toddler population is 9%. Hearing loss in infants and young children directly affects the development of language, ranging from deafness to slurred speech. Poor language development will cause difficulties in learning and social interaction in the future. Another serious consequence of hearing loss in infants and toddlers is mental retardation. Studies have shown that a 7-year-old child with severe hearing loss in both ears has the mental capacity of a 4-year-old child. The rapid development of language in children is mainly between the ages of 0 and 3. Most deaf children in China are diagnosed after the age of 3, which delays the language and intellectual development of the child. If newborn hearing screening can be implemented, i.e., every newborn child is tested for audiology during its hospitalization; as well as hearing testing for infants and children, it is possible to diagnose most deaf children early and give early treatment, and it is possible to improve the hearing level of some children with hearing impairment, or even approach or reach normal; for those whose hearing cannot be improved or is still below normal after improvement, it is also possible to implement early The early intervention of hearing impairment can minimize the adverse effects of hearing impairment on language and intellectual development.
