Why do we need hearing screening? 1, China’s existing hearing disability 27.8 million, 23,000 newborn children with hearing disabilities each year, hearing disability prevention and rehabilitation task is very difficult. Newborn hearing screening is an effective means for early detection and diagnosis of children with hearing disabilities, and is essential for timely early intervention and improved rehabilitation results. 2, early detection of hearing loss and early intervention can enable children with hearing loss to approach and reach the speech development level of normal children of the same age to the maximum extent. Because congenital hearing loss can directly lead to delayed development of children’s speech, emotion, psychological and social interaction and other abilities, causing adverse effects on the growth and development of children, and bringing a heavy burden to the families of affected children and society. 3, congenital hearing loss of infants and children is not easily detected by parents. Since it takes 1 to 1.5 years for a newborn to speak, some children start to speak only at the age of 2 years old, and before 2 years old is the peak of the child’s speech development, but when parents find that the child does not speak before they seek medical attention, usually more than 2 years old. 4, currently has more advanced hearing diagnosis and intervention technology. Otoacoustic emission technology (OAE) is the easiest and most commonly used hearing screening technology. For newborns or infants with suspected hearing loss, the diagnosis can be further clarified through auditory brainstem response audiometry (ABR), and timely and effective intervention therapy can be provided if necessary. Through speech and sound amplification, medication, surgery, hearing aids, cochlear implant surgery and speech rehabilitation training, children can hear, learn to speak live and return to mainstream society.
