How to reduce cranial pressure

To reduce intracranial pressure, we need to treat the cause and symptoms. Symptomatic is mainly the use of some dehydration, reduce intracranial pressure drugs, clinically commonly used like mannitol, glycerol fructose, can reduce intracranial pressure, reduce the edema of brain tissue, to prevent the formation of brain herniation. Diuretics can also be applied. The application of diuretics and dehydrating agents can easily lead to excessive potassium excretion in patients, so attention should be paid to potassium supplementation and diuretics commonly used like furosemide and torasemide in the process. The most effective and fundamental way is to treat the cause, for example, if the patient is caused by cerebral hemorrhage, the intracranial hematoma should be removed. If it is caused by intracranial tumor, the intracranial tumor should be removed. If the patient is caused by acute hydrocephalus or brain cyst, and central nervous system infection, puncture and drainage or removal of brain abscess to control the infection is the most fundamental way to treat intracranial pressure. Once the etiology is removed, the patient’s intracranial pressure may return to normal.
