Whether and how long the black shadow disappears after retinal tear surgery is related to the patient’s condition and cannot be generalized.
Retinal tears are usually treated surgically. If the tear is located in the posterior pole of the retina, there is a chance that the black shadow in the field of vision may form due to impaired retinal function at the tear site and will not go away.
If the retina is filled with gas to promote retinal resetting during retinal tear surgery, the black shadow will not disappear until the gas is absorbed, which usually takes about half a month to a month to be fully absorbed.
If silicone oil was placed inside the eye during retinal tear surgery to promote retinal resetting, it usually takes three to six months after surgery to remove the silicone oil before the dark shadows disappear.
Patients should go to the ophthalmology department of the hospital for regular checkups after the surgery to find out the cause of the dark shadows, and should be guided for further treatment.
