Patients who have had surgery related to a meniscus tear may take about six weeks to three months to recover from the surgery. These patients require prompt meniscus repair surgery and adequate post-operative braking in cooperation with the surgeon. Most of these patients need to remain in bed for about four weeks, during which time the surgeon will instruct the patient to take proper functional exercises. After four weeks, the surgeon may instruct the patient to gradually move to the floor for the next phase of exercise. If the patient has recovered well, he or she may be able to return to normal walking after six weeks. If the injury is too severe or the exercise is insufficient, the recovery time may be longer.
