For the treatment of mycobacteria in women, systemic and local medication can be chosen. Systemic medication can be given as fluconazole tablets 150mg in a single dose or mycophenolate tablets 50mg orally 3 times a day; vaginal plugs can be given as clotrimazole pessary vaginally or as diazoxide ointment vaginally. Because oral medications for mycobacteria are more stimulating to the gastrointestinal tract, women choose vaginal topicals to treat mycobacterial vaginitis. If the spores are negative, it is recommended to consolidate the treatment for another course of treatment and two consecutive negative tests are considered as a cure.
