Progesterone rises steadily with each week of pregnancy and can promote embryo implantation and maintain a normal pregnancy. Progesterone levels can be measured by blood sampling during early pregnancy as prescribed by your doctor.
Luteal insufficiency in early pregnancy can lead to a decrease in progesterone levels, causing abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding and other symptoms of pre-eclampsia, which require proper rest and progesterone and other medications to protect the fetus.
If the symptoms are relieved or disappear after treatment, the progesterone and HCG levels are normal, and the ultrasound indicates that the embryo is well developed, the pregnancy can continue.
