H. pylori eradication treatment, i.e. after 14 days of treatment is performed to standardize the assessment of whether it has been eradicated or not, usually requires 4-8 weeks after the end of treatment before going for a review. If the test results turn negative, it means that H. pylori has been eradicated and will rarely recur after eradication, but a small percentage of people will have re-infection. According to statistics, the infection rate after H. pylori eradication is low, basically the annual reinfection rate per person is about 1-3%. Therefore, to avoid re-infection after H. pylori eradication, meal sharing and the use of public chopsticks are advocated, as well as regular disinfection, and re-infection is usually related to personal hygiene habits and exposure to the environment.
