Atractylodes macrocephala and Cyperus rotundus each 15 grams of boiled water can play a certain role in clearing heat and drying dampness (clearing away heat and drying out dampness), diarrhea and fire to remove steam, and detoxification and healing of sores. Atractylodes macrocephala is pungent, bitter and warm in nature, with the effects of drying dampness and strengthening the spleen, dispelling wind and dispersing cold (removing wind and dispersing cold), and brightening the eyes, but it is forbidden for those who have a deficiency of yin and internal heat, and those who have a deficiency of qi and excessive sweating. Huangbai is bitter, cold in nature, has the effect of drying dampness and clearing heat, diarrhea fire and steam, detoxification and treatment of sores, this medicine is prohibited for those who have a deficiency of cold spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach weakness and cold). Fifteen grams of each of the two herbs in boiled water can alleviate the discomfort caused by dampness-heat syndrome, such as redness of urine, jaundice, and dysuria (unsmooth urination), as well as slightly alleviate bone vaporization and tidal fever (a burst of heat, feeling that the heat is penetrating from the inside of the bone to the outside) caused by deficiency-fire. Cangzhu and Huangbai are both traditional Chinese medicines and should be used under the guidance of a physician, not taken in large quantities over a long period of time on one’s own.
