Advantages of laparoscopic treatment of appendicitis

Appendicitis is one of the common acute abdominal conditions in clinical practice. Some first-time appendicitis can be relieved by anti-inflammatory conservative treatment, but some patients will still have recurrent episodes and eventually require surgical removal of the appendix for complete cure. Previously, open surgery was used to remove the appendix, leaving a significant scar on the right lower abdomen. Now, with the development and maturity of minimally invasive laparoscopic technology, patients have a new option – laparoscopic appendectomy. The technical advantages of minimally invasive laparoscopic appendectomy are: less trauma, less disturbance to the intestinal canal in the abdominal cavity, less pain, faster recovery, etc.; you can get out of bed on the day of surgery, eat and drink on the next day, and be discharged from the hospital in three days; small abdominal scars, if you do single-hole laparoscopic appendectomy, there is no obvious scar on the abdomen, which is more suitable for female patients who love beauty; less complications, especially incisional infection and less abdominal adhesions, which cause adhesive The main cause of intestinal obstruction is abdominal surgery, and appendectomy is the first. Because laparoscopy has little interference with the small intestine in the abdominal cavity, and the resected appendix is removed by trocar without contact with the abdominal wall, the chance of intestinal adhesions and incisional infections is much lower than that of open surgery; the whole abdominal cavity and pelvic organs can be observed, which is especially suitable for female patients to prevent back pain and infertility caused by pelvic adhesions. Although laparoscopic appendectomy has obvious superiority, its cost is relatively higher than that of open surgery, which is difficult to be accepted by some patients with financial difficulties. With the rapid development of China’s economy and the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, more and more patients will choose minimally invasive laparoscopic appendectomy as the preferred method of appendicitis treatment just as laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard for benign gallbladder disease.
