Metronidazole and amoxicillin can be taken together. Metronidazole is a synthetic anti-anaerobic drug that has no effect on aerobic bacteria, and is also anti-trichomonas, amoeba, Giardia lamblia and other parasites. Amoxicillin is an artificial semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic, which only kills aerobic bacteria, but has no effect on anaerobic bacteria, and has no anti-parasitic effect. Metronidazole is anti-anaerobic and anti-parasitic, and amoxicillin is anti-aerobic. If the two are used together for treatment, there is no contraindication between them, and they will not interfere with each other or confront each other when used together, reducing their respective efficacy, so they can be taken together. Metronidazole and amoxicillin have an effect on a particular kind of bacteria, namely Helicobacter pylori, and both are taken at the same time after meals, together with proton pump inhibitors and bismuth half an hour before meals, the combined application of four drugs can eradicate H. pylori.
