Patient Jiang, a 49-year-old male from Gansu, underwent a ventriculo-abdominal shunt in a local hospital in 2005 for a coma caused by a neck trauma. After the operation, he gradually developed numbness and weakness of both upper limbs, neck pain, thoracic and dorsal girdling sensation, stiffness of both lower limbs, and increased muscle tone, along with symptoms of urinary urgency and frequency. According to the patient’s condition, “subarachnoid shunt” was performed. After the operation, the patient felt that the strength of both hands improved, the feeling of thoracic and back strapping was reduced, and the stiffness of both lower limbs was reduced.
