Antibiotics of choice in patients with pancreatitis

The preferred antibiotics for pancreatitis recommend third-generation cephalosporins, such as ceftazidime or cefoperazone, etc. The third-generation cephalosporins are both anti-Gram-positive and anti-Gram-negative, which basically enables them to achieve a full coverage of the antimicrobial spectrum for infections within the abdominal cavity. Since patients with pancreatitis have swelling of the pancreas, oozing around the pancreas, and may even have bacterial infections, prophylactic antibiotics are needed in the treatment, and the main bacteria in the intestinal tract are mainly Escherichia coli, so the use of antibiotics has to take into account both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and so the use of third-generation cephalosporins is recommended.
