What does intercostitis mean?

Intercostal neuritis is a painful lump and pressure pain at the costal cartilage, most often seen in people between the ages of 20 and 40 years old, commonly at the second or third costal cartilage, the junction with the sternum, and occasionally at other ribs or sternoclavicular joints. Currently, there is no specific treatment for intercostal neuritis of unknown origin in Western medicine, and symptomatic treatment such as painkillers is mostly used, which can only temporarily relieve the symptoms and cannot solve the problem at the root. The cause of intercostal neuritis may be related to viral infection or trauma, and the course of the disease may last for a few hours or days, but it can recur, often healing spontaneously within a few months, or individually for several years. Treatment commonly involves hot compresses, pain-relieving drugs, local injections of hormones, and sometimes oral antiviral drugs.
