What does b-type brain natriuretic peptide mean?

B-type natriuretic peptide, known as “B-type natriuretic peptide”, is an amino acid secreted by cardiomyocytes in the atria and ventricles when they are stimulated. B-type natriuretic peptide has been measured by blood tests and has been shown to dilate blood vessels, promote the removal of excess water and salt from the kidneys, and inhibit neurological hyperexcitability, and is usually elevated in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure. B-type natriuretic peptide is one of the most commonly used biomarkers of heart failure in clinical practice.
