Efficacy and effects of acyclovir ointment

  Acyclovir Ointment is a purine nucleoside antiviral drug, which is an over-the-counter dermatological drug. Acyclovir Ointment is effective in inhibiting herpes simplex virus, varicella zoster virus, and cytomegalovirus.  Acyclovir Ointment works: for herpes simplex or herpes zoster infections. Treatment of herpes zoster, herpes labialis, genital herpes and other viral skin diseases. It has inhibitory effect on herpes simplex virus, varicella zoster virus and cytomegalovirus in vitro. It has a special affinity for viruses but low toxicity to mammalian host cells. Carcinogenicity has been reported in in vitro cell transformation assays, but no basis for carcinogenicity has been found in animal studies. The carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of this product are unclear. High dose injections can cause testicular atrophy and reduced sperm count in animals, and the drug can pass through the placenta.  The combination of this product with interferon can improve the efficacy. Combination with azidothymidine can reduce the dosage of this product. Combination with propofol may slow the excretion of the drug and cause accumulation of the drug in the body. Some drugs may interfere with acyclovir ointment, which may affect its effectiveness.
