O-shaped legs, also known as knee inversion, refers to the phenomenon that the whole lower limb presents an O-shape when standing with ankles together due to a variety of factors. The causes of O-shaped legs mainly include rickets, trauma, poor posture, degenerative joint disease and so on.
1 rickets: infants and young children with O-shaped legs are mostly related to rickets, i.e., due to vitamin D deficiency caused by children with delayed bone development and developmental deformities caused by the disease. Early manifestation of the patient as chicken breast, with the aggravation of the disease gradually affects the development of infantile bones, resulting in patients with O-shaped legs.
2. Trauma and poor posture: O-shaped legs in adolescents are mostly related to the damage of epiphyses around the knee joint, which may lead to fast growth of the lateral epiphyses and slow growth of the medial epiphyses of the knee joint, thus forming O-shaped legs. In addition, long-term poor walking posture, foot inversion of adolescent patients may also lead to the occurrence of O-shaped legs.
3. Degenerative lesions: O-legs in adults and middle-aged and old people are mostly related to degenerative lesions and wear and tear of the cartilage on the inside of the knee joint.
Patients with O-leg should go to the hospital in time and under the guidance of the doctor for regular treatment.
