Niu Mao Fei, also known as linoleum felt, cow hair grass, etc., the whole herb can be used for medicine.
It is pungent, warm, non-toxic and belongs to the lung meridian. Its effects include dispersing cold, expelling phlegm and calming asthma. The Classification of Herbal Medicinal Properties says that it “disperses wind-cold”, and the Sichuan Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine says that it “disperses wind-cold and removes chest and abdominal vexation”.
It can be used for the treatment of external wind-cold, cough and loss of voice, phlegm and asthma, chest tightness and irritability. Its usage is mainly for internal use, can be decocted soup or powder.
The adverse effects of Ox Hair Felt are not known and should be noted that it is contraindicated for people with wind-heat and cold.
