The danger period of cerebral infarction is usually 1 week, and for some patients with serious conditions with large infarcts, the danger period is about 2 weeks or less. Intracranial hypertension, cerebral hernia and other serious diseases can occur during the danger period of cerebral infarction.
Within 1 week after cerebral infarction, cerebral edema will occur in the infarcted foci, the local pressure will increase, the functional deficit of the infarcted foci and its peripheral neurons will be gradually aggravated, and the increase of intracranial pressure may lead to cerebral herniation, so that this 1 week is the danger period of cerebral infarction; for the patients with larger infarcted area, this danger period may be prolonged to 2 weeks.
During the risk period of cerebral infarction, a second cerebral infarction may occur, and prolonged bed rest may lead to infections and decubitus ulcers, which are serious complications that may occur during this period of time. Active treatment should be given during the risk period of cerebral infarction, such as the use of mannitol for dehydration to lower the intracranial pressure, such as the use of aspirin and clopidogrel for anti-platelet aggregation, and so on.
If the diagnosis of cerebral infarction is confirmed, please follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
