Diagnosis of blue sclera

Normal sclera is porcelain white. If the collagen fiber structure of the sclera is changed or the sclera is thinned so that the pigmented membrane underneath can be seen, the sclera will be bluish in color, called blue sclera, which is relatively rare. Patients with blue sclera need to be diagnosed and treated early. Diagnosis: 1. The appearance of the sclera is uniformly bright blue or blue-gray, while the corneal rim is slightly pale white. 2.Check whether the patient has anemia, check the serum iron in the body and observe the sequence of blue sclera and anemia. 3.General visual function is mostly unaffected, and the eye can be complicated by winding nuclear cataract, cone cornea, glaucoma, color blindness, etc. 4.Observe whether it is accompanied by other abnormal development of supporting tissues throughout the body, such as blue sclera a bone brittle syndrome, manifested as blue sclera, deafness and bone brittle disease, easy to produce fracture. 5.Normal newborn babies with immature sclera development also have light blue color. Blue sclera disease is diagnosed only when the sclera is still persistently blue 3 years after birth.
