What is the difference between bedwetting and water breakage in pregnancy?

The cause and symptoms of bedwetting are different. In pregnant women, bedwetting is mainly caused by a sudden increase in abdominal pressure, such as coughing or sneezing, which leads to the involuntary flow of urine from the urethra, and also by urge incontinence due to pronounced urinary frequency and urgency, while water breakage is the flow of more fluid from the vagina, sometimes mixed with fetal fat and faeces, without other signs of labour such as abdominal pain.
If you are at home, the simpler way to determine this is to lie still and perform contractions. If the flow of fluid stops, bedwetting is considered more likely. However, if there is still fluid flow, the possibility of water breakage is considered high and immediate hospitalisation is recommended if water breaks.
