Can bedwetting due to occult spina bifida heal on its own?

It depends on the situation.
If there is simple occult spina bifida and there are no other complications on imaging and laboratory examination, bedwetting symptoms can naturally resolve or even disappear in most patients when the child is about 5 to 10 years old. In contrast, if nocturnal incontinence worsens after the age of 10 years, accompanied by a weakening of the bladder forcing muscles and myelogram findings of severe obstruction or filling defects, there is no possibility of self-healing and early surgical treatment is indicated.
