How to check for meniscus injuries

Examinations concerning the meniscus can be divided into two categories: squeeze test and grinding test.
1. Squeeze test: It is used to check the lateral stability of the knee joint. When applying external rotation stress to check the medial stability of the knee joint, if there is pain in the lateral gap of the knee joint, it indicates a lateral meniscus injury; when applying internal rotation stress to check the lateral stability of the knee joint, if there is pain in the medial gap of the knee joint, it indicates a medial meniscus injury.
2. Grinding test: used to check meniscus injury and lateral collateral ligament injury. The patient lies prone, the healthy side of the knee flexion 90 °, the examiner to make its affected limb inward slightly backward, so that the knee joint on the back of the patient’s thigh, the calf is the foot upward in the upright position, the two hands hold the foot, upward lifting, and outward and medial rotation. If pain occurs, it is positive.
If meniscus injury is highly suspected, in addition to performing the above examination, relevant imaging tests should be done to clarify the diagnosis, such as MRI, and treatment should be carried out under the guidance of the doctor.
