Original Formula Dosage

Dugong is composed of 3 taels of Dugong, 2 taels each of Morus alba, Hyssop, Cinnamon, Cortex Eucommiae, Macrophyllum, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Radix Panax Ginseng, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Sinensis, Poria, Radix Poriae, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Rehmanniae Alba. This formula is from “Biquan Qian Jin Yao Fang” (备急千金要方). In this formula, Duhuo dispels wind-dampness and removes paralysis, Cynanchum dispels wind and relieves pain (dispels wind evils and relieves pain in the muscles and bones), Radix Gentianae dispels wind-dampness, soothes the meridians and facilitates the joints, Cinnamomum warms the meridians and disperses cold (warms the meridians of the human body and disperses the body’s cold evils), and Sangshenggang, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Bovineae are known to tonify the liver and kidney, and strengthen the muscles and bones; Angelica sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata and Radix Paeoniae Alba nourish the blood and harmonize the blood, while Ginseng, Poria and Glycyrrhizae radix strengthen the spleen and benefit the vital energy. The combination of these herbs is effective in dispelling wind-dampness, relieving paralyzing pain, benefiting the liver and kidney, and tonifying qi and blood. Duo Wu Sheng Tang can be used to treat prolonged paralysis, deficiency of liver and kidney, and insufficiency of qi and blood. It is characterized by pain in the waist and knees, impotence and weakness, unfavorable flexion and extension of the limbs, or numbness, fear of cold and fond of warmth, palpitation (accelerated heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), shortness of breath, pale tongue with white coating, and thin and weak pulse. The adverse effects of Duhuo Sheng Tang have not been clarified, and it should be noted that this formula is contraindicated for those with paralysis of dampness-heat syndrome. If medication is needed, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, as unauthorized use of medication may result in adverse effects.
