A parathyroid imaging may be done to clarify the diagnosis of a patient suspected of having a combined parathyroid adenoma or hyperplasia. Tests for parathyroid adenoma or hyperplasia include the following: 1. Laboratory tests: elevated blood calcium, decreased blood phosphorus, and markedly elevated parathyroid hormone; 2. parathyroid ultrasound: ultrasound can initially assess the benign or malignant nature of the adenoma; 3. Parathyroid imaging: imaging can clarify the location of the tumor; 4. Enhanced CT of the neck: it can evaluate the size of the adenoma and its relationship with the surrounding organs and blood vessels; Parathyroid adenoma or hyperplasia can lead to hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia, which in turn can lead to a series of clinical symptoms, including cardiac arrest, convulsions, bone pain, and urinary stones. Therefore, parathyroid imaging is done to assess the possibility of parathyroid adenoma or hyperplasia, and the above tests should also be performed if necessary, as recommended by your doctor.
