Functions and roles of the pancreas

The function and role of the pancreas is to secrete pancreatic juice and hormones such as insulin. The pancreas is able to secrete pancreatic juice, and the bicarbonate contained in the pancreatic juice can play a role in neutralizing stomach acid and balancing the pH value of the intestines. In addition, pancreatic fluid contains components such as lipase, amylase, and trypsinogen, which have the effect and function of digesting fats, sugars, and proteins. The pancreas contains islet B cells that can secrete insulin, which can have the effect of lowering blood sugar. And glucagon, secreted by islet B cells in the pancreas, can raise blood sugar. In addition, the growth inhibitor secreted by islet D cells can inhibit the secretion of islet A cells and islet B cells. In addition to this, islet PP cells in the pancreas can effectively inhibit pancreatic fluid secretion, gallbladder contraction and gastrointestinal motility. The pancreas secretes pancreatic fluid and hormones, which have a great influence on the body’s digestion and absorption, as well as endocrine functions.
