Long-term eyelid jumping cannot be ignored

Physiological eyelid jumping often has the following characteristics: 1. the location is uncertain, one moment the left eyelid jumps, the other moment the right eyelid jumps; 2. the frequency is irregular, it can occur at any time; 3. the symptoms of eyelid jumping do not have a tendency to worsen, it is always relatively mild; 4. the range is relatively limited, it is only limited to the jumping of the eyelid and does not spread to the cheeks or corners of the mouth. Pathological eyelid jumping often has two conditions: one is due to inflammation or other lesions of the eye, the discomfort is always limited to the area around the eyelid, without the tendency to expand to other parts of the face, such as myopia, farsightedness, conjunctivitis, keratitis and other causes of eyelid jumping, this situation requires a visit to the ophthalmology department. The other type may be a precursor of facial nerve disease. It is manifested as long-term eyelid jumping and gradually expands to the corners of the mouth and even the neck, and the degree of facial jumping gradually increases, of which the most common is facial muscle spasm, which can develop into facial paralysis. Primary facial myospasm is mostly caused by vascular dysplasia or vascular sclerosis. Most facial myospasms begin with eyelid fluttering and are easily overlooked at first. After a period of time, if it develops into eyes that cannot be opened, twitching at the corners of the mouth, and in severe cases, even the neck twitches involuntarily, and even half of the face is affected, prompt consultation with neurosurgery is required.
