The left eye jumping money right eye jumping disaster? As the saying goes, “the left eye jumps for money and the right eye jumps for disaster”, so some people worry about bad things coming when their right eyelid jumps, and think about picking up money plus buying lottery tickets when their left eyelid jumps. The result is obviously neither a great disaster, nor a great fortune. Then why is the eyelid jumping? This is a question for the doctor to answer. The doctor told us that one of the muscles that make up the eyelids is called the orbicularis oris muscle, which surrounds the eye like a flat round wheel. When it contracts, the eye closes. The orbicularis oris muscle in each eye is controlled by two “facial nerves”, which are controlled by a “nucleus accumbens” deep in the brain. Normally, our eyes are blinking constantly so that they can brush tears onto the cornea and conjunctiva, thus nourishing and protecting the surface structures of the eye without any noticeable sensation. However, if the nerves in charge of the eyelid muscles are overstimulated, they will command the muscles to contract repeatedly, allowing the eyelids to move continuously, and the person will feel as if the eyelids are jumping.
