What is secretory diarrhea?

Secretory diarrhea refers to symptoms such as increased frequency of stools and thinning of feces caused by the secretion of large amounts of fluid from the intestines, which exceeds the absorption capacity of the intestinal mucosa.
Diarrhea is often manifested in the number of stools >3 times a day, or fecal matter >200g/day, in which the water content is more than 80%. Its pathogenesis is complex, often classified from a pathophysiological point of view in clinical practice, and secretory diarrhea is one of the more common.
Common causes include Vibrio cholerae infection and intestinal tuberculosis. In addition, some endocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal lymphoma can also appear secretory diarrhea.
Patients with secretory diarrhea need to seek timely medical attention to determine the primary cause of the disease and actively treat the primary disease.
