What does a urine sediment test with a minus sign mean?

A urine sediment test result with a minus sign and no plus sign indicates a negative urine sediment test result. A plus sign and a minus sign indicate a weak positive result. The normal values for urine sediment are less than 3 high magnification fields of view for red blood cells and less than 5 high magnification fields of view for white blood cells. If there is only one minus sign but no plus sign through the urine sediment test, it is mostly suggestive of normal and the result is negative. However, if the result of the urine sediment test is one plus sign and one minus sign, it suggests a weak positive. Urine sediment test can indicate the presence of nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, occult blood, urinary tract infections, etc. After the urine sediment test, if there is any abnormality, it is usually necessary to further combine with routine blood tests, renal ultrasound, renal function tests and so on. It is recommended to have the relevant examination in regular hospitals, and if there is any abnormality, further active diagnosis and treatment.
