Dry syndrome, called “dryness” in Chinese medicine, is an autoimmune disease, which is common in women, and the incidence has been gradually increasing in recent years. At present, there is no special treatment for this disease in Western medicine, and Chinese medicine treatment is a better choice. According to my clinical experience, the basic pathological basis of dryness is yin deficiency, mainly manifesting as dry mouth, dry eyes, dry nose, some manifesting as dry vulva, often accompanied by dry vaginitis, some accompanied by joint symptoms, later often with eye complications, vision loss and liver and kidney function damage. According to the different evidence of concurrent hostages, it can be divided into four types: Yin deficiency and internal heat type: In addition to dryness symptoms, those with lung and stomach yin deficiency often have sores on the mouth and tongue or recurrent mouth ulcers, dry cough without phlegm, and those with liver and kidney yin deficiency are accompanied by irritable heat in the hands and feet, low fever in the afternoon, soreness in the waist and knees. The tongue is red and less coated, or the tongue is cracked, the tongue is flaky or yellow and greasy, and the pulse is thin and slippery. For deficiency of lung and stomach yin, Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang and Yi Wei Tang are used to reduce the symptoms; for deficiency of liver and kidney yin, Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is used to reduce the symptoms. Qi and Yin deficiency type: In addition to dryness, it is accompanied by shortness of breath, weakness, lack of energy, loss of appetite, lack of facial color, etc. The tongue is red and less fluid, and the pulse is weak and feeble. Take Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang or Liu Wei Di Huang Tang as the mainstay, plus Si Jun Zi Tang. Yin deficiency and blood stasis type: in addition to dryness symptoms, accompanied by dull complexion or dark eyes, or facial discoloration, rough skin, etc. The tongue is dark or with petechiae and petechial spots, and the pulse is thin. Take Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang or Liu Wei Di Huang Tang, plus Si Wu Tang with addition and reduction. Yin deficiency and Qi stagnation type: In addition to dryness symptoms, it is accompanied by abdominal distension, dysesthesia, or muscle pain, and emotional irritability. The tongue is red with little coating and the pulse is thin and stringent. Take Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang or Liu Wei Di Huang Tang with Prosperity San as an addition and subtraction. Dry syndrome is a chronic disease, and the effect time of Chinese medicine treatment is slow, therefore, it is recommended that patients should insist on taking medicine for at least one to three months. Patients with longer duration of the disease can prepare Chinese medicine pills or bulk pills to take after the treatment is effective. In addition, patients should avoid spicy and oily foods in their diet and minimize the use of other “fire-removing”, “laxative” or heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs. Diet should be light, eat more fruits and fresh vegetables, and can be combined with food therapy, such as yam lily and lotus seed porridge.
