What to do about exposed tooth roots

Exposed tooth roots are usually caused by gingival recession, which requires removing the etiologic factors leading to gingival recession, performing membranous gingival surgery to cover the exposed root surfaces, and dealing with complications, such as dentin hypersensitivity, root surface caries, etc., as follows. 1. Remove the etiologic factors: including correcting bad brushing habits, removing bad restorations, and adjusting excessive orthodontic forces. For gingival recession caused by periodontitis, perfect periodontal treatment should be carried out, including supragingival cleaning, subgingival scraping and so on. 2. Membranous gingival surgery: For gingival recession of individual teeth, lateral transposition flap or free gingival grafting can be used; for gingival recession of multiple teeth, connective tissue grafting can be used to cover the exposed root surface. 3. Treatment of complications: If symptoms of dentin hypersensitivity occur, desensitization treatment should be carried out, and if root surface caries occur, filling treatment should be carried out. If gum recession is severe, or other symptoms occur, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to receive regular treatment as soon as possible.
