The first review of thyroid surgery is done one month after surgery. Thyroid surgery is different depending on the benign and malignant nature of the surgery. If the nodule is benign, unilateral thyroid lobectomy is usually performed; if the nodule is malignant, bilateral thyroid lobectomy is performed. If the parathyroid glands are damaged during surgery, it may lead to low calcium after surgery. Therefore, thyroid function, i.e. T3, T4 and TSH, should be reviewed at the first check-up after surgery, and calcium levels should be reviewed to see if the dose of oral thyroxine and calcium tablets should be adjusted. A thyroid ultrasound will be performed to check the condition of the lymph nodes in the neck, the healing of the incision, and the presence of scar growth.
